About Johnstown Airport
History
The first airport in Johnstown was located in Westmont, bordering the Sunnehanna Country Club. The dedication ceremony held on July 17, 1929 welcomed 25,000 guests including the distinguished Amelia Earhart.
Many locals, now in their 80’s and 90’s remember the airport fondly. It was a favorite past time to watch the planes fly in and out, including the Pony Express and Lt. Col. Boyd D. “Buzz” Wagner, the first flying ace of WWII.
The original airport ceased operations in 1948, and moved to Richland where it is located now.
